Abstract
The study explores the concept of municipal success using the example of Baranya County, based on a review of the literature and the authors' own empirical research. The authors define success as a complex, multi-factor phenomenon that includes not only economic performance but also social cohesion, infrastructure provision, quality of leadership, and the exploitation of local resources. According to the results, the most frequently mentioned successful settlements are Bóly, where the success is primarily based on a stable economic base (industrial park, investors) conscious and long-term settlement management and strong social capital. The research shows that the effective use of external resources (grants) and political connections - although not always decisive - can also contribute to success. Overall, it can be concluded that in peripheral Baranya the main guarantee for municipal success is the conscious mobilization of local resources and long-term sustainable economic and social cooperation.
